  • Kashering, Kashrus, Ovens, Shavuos

I would like to Kasher my Fleishig oven to Milchigs, make some Milchig food and then Kasher it back to Fleishigs. I was wondering how I would go about that? My oven has a clean button.

An oven may be Kashered by turning on the self-clean for a full cycle. When Kashering from Milchig to Fleishig one may Kasher even by leaving the oven on…

I just got the MMR shot on Friday and then was the measles outbreak. My daughter (soon to be 8 months BH) didn’t take the shot yet and will take it today. The MMR shot takes 10 days to be effective and if she goes out she will be exposed to a lot of people that didn’t take the shot and are not immunized. What should I do then: should I still go to Shul to listen to Aseret Hadibrot?

This is primarily a medical question. When the Rebbe spoke about little children coming to Shul to hear Aseres Hadibros he added: “if health allows”. Ask the doctor and…

I crossed the dateline, traveling eastward (from Australia to California), during Sefira. What should I do regarding Shavuos?

One who travelled east, observes Shavuos a day earlier than the people at his destination (i.e. on Shabbos and Sunday, the fifth and sixth of Sivan). These Halachos are relevant for this situation: Shabbos:…

When should one get his hair cut before Shavuos this year, since Erev Shavuos is Shabbos?

It is a Mitzvah to have hair cut before every Yom Tov, so as not to enter into Yom Tov unkempt. The prohibition of haircutting on Chol Hamoed was…

Is there an Inyan to eat two Challos on Shavous day, one by the Milchig course and one by the Fleishig course?

The Rama mentions this custom. According to the Magen Avraham’s interpretation, the custom is that the first Challah should actually be Milchig. However, the common custom to eat Milchig…

I normally have a separate oven that we uses for all dairy. Unfortunately it has broken and can’t be fixed before Shavuos. I was wondering if I could use the oven that I normally use strictly for Fleishigs and use it to make dairy at this time (covered if necessary)?

There are countless details involved in converting ovens and stoves from meat use to dairy, but this is not the forum to delve into this at length. (We will…

Can my daughter travel over the dateline to go to Australia for Pesach? Is there any leniency being that this year the קביעות of שבועות is Shabbos Sunday Monday?
