If I ground flax seeds in a blender used for milk can I use it to coat chicken?

If the blender was clean when you ground the seeds, you may use them for chicken. If you washed the blender with soap in between its last usage, you can assume that it was clean enough.

Even if you only rinsed it with water, if it was only used for milk which isn’t greasy – not cheese – you may use the flax seeds to coat the chicken.

Assuming the blender was not used for hot, the question is if the blender was absolutely clean of any dairy (especially around the blade of the blender). Generally, the Halacha is that blades are assumed to be fatty even after rinsing. Nowadays when things are scrubbed and washed well, this doesn’t apply. If it was only used for milk, rinsing would remove any remnants. Additionally, if it was rinsed well with soap, we can assume that if there was any particles of dairy, their taste was ruined – נותן טעם לפגם. See Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah 103:1-2.

With that said, the following is a general recommendation:

“Small Appliances: An electric mixer, blender or grinder do not require a separate motor in order to be used for meat and dairy. However, one must buy separate attachments if the appliance is to be used for more than one food type (meat, dairy, or Pareve). Even when using separate attachments, the machine should be cleaned well on all sides after each use.” (Spice and Spirit)
