When making Kiddush on Challa, when does one wash? Before, after or in middle of Kiddush?
Before Kiddush.
The order is as follows:
Wash, al netilas yadayim, wipe hands, cover challah, put your hand over the cover and over challah throughout yom hashishi, make a mark over the challah, cover the challah and place your hands over the challah and recite hamotzi, place your hands again over the cover and challah recite the rest of kiddush, uncover slice and eat.
However, one must avoid making kiddush on bread wherever possible.
