Folding Tallis on Motzei Shabbos

 

Question:

I’ve seen many people folding their Tallis on Motzei Shabbos right after Maariv, or as they wait for Kaddish after Shmoneh Esrei. However I’ve also heard that there’s an inyan to fold the Tallis specifically after Havdalah, and that there segulos attached to that as well. Is there a source for this?

 

Answer:

The custom is to fold the (Shabbos) Talis after Havdala, as to start the new week with a Mitzva, though some sources mention folding it after davening when leaving shul, or even during Vihi Noam. The segulos are associated with folding the tallis right away on Motzei Shabbos without regard for the specific time.

אבל במדרש תלפיות ערך הבדלה: מיד אחר יציאתו מביהכ”נ קודם שיבדיל יקפל הטלית. ובקיצור של״ה דיני מוצ״ש בשם מהרי״ל: מיד כשמתחיל הש”ץ ויהי נועם. וכבר העיר בליקוטי מהרי״ח שבמהרי״ל לא כתב כך. ובסידור יעב״ץ שרשאי לעשותו מיד אחר שהבדיל בתפלה משחשכה.
