Is it true that a mother should start nursing on the left side?

 

Q. It is brought in Tzava’as Rebbi Yehuda Hachassid (55) that a mother should start nursing on the left side. Is this the practice L’poel too?

A. Yes, where possible.

 

Q. Is it true that this applies to the first morning feed too, that one should nurse from the left side because it’s closer to the heart?

Does it apply to girls too? 

A. This is limited to the very first time she begins to nurse each baby boy. The reason is that he begins his first meal closer to the heart, which is the resting place of Bina. It, therefore, makes no difference if she is right-handed or left-handed.

This is limited to a boy (who is required to learn Torah) and does not apply to a girl.
