What is the proper spelling of the name Leib?
The correct spelling among Askenazim is ליב.
If the tzaire beneath the ל is pronounced similar to a patach as is done in many Hungarian, Polish and Galician communities, i.e. leib (not labe, as pronounced in Russian, German and Lithuanian communities) it is spelled לייב.
