Regarding a Sukkah, the cross beams in the picture below are more than 3 Tefachim apart…
However the question came up: is the 3 Tefachim of space required only because they are NAILED in frame? Or even if they wouldn’t be nailed with metal but connected with wooden pieces instead ?
Answer:
It is worthy to note, that there is no requirement for 3 Tefochim space between the crossbeams. One who wishes to be Machmir may do so, if it can be done easily with no extra hassle. If, however, it entails any extra effort, then one is not required to leave that space. The fact that the boards are nailed isn’t an issue.
