If I have no way to find out if the pizza is hamotzi or mezonos and as a result I make a shehakol (based on the beginning of Seder Birchos Hanehenin) do I make an Al Hamichyah after?

Regardless of the brocha, once you eat the amount of קביעות סעודה one says Hamotzi and Birchas Hamazon.

As a rule, one should always wash for pizza as,‏ generally speaking, one is eating more than קביעות סעודה. Even if one is eating less, it is not usually eaten as a snack and therefore one should wash on a kezayis of bread first.

PS. Although when there’s a doubt about which bracha to make one should usually recite Shehakol, this does not apply in this case since:

  1. Where one could find out the correct bracha without much difficulty (a phone call to the producers to establish the ingredients and another phone call to a rav should yield the correct result), one may not rely on the above rule.
  2. Whenever there’s a doubt whether something is considered lechem gamur or not, one should ideally eat it within a meal. If that is not possible, one recites Mezonos and Al Hamichya (unless eating an amount of קביעות סעודה as above).
