Our school is trying to push for a longer Friday, extending to 1 pm in the winter and 3 pm in the summer.

I just wanted to confirm that this is okay to add hours of Torah and not against some minhag yisroel.

 

Answer:

The reason they finish earlier is to leave time to prepare for Shabbos. This is mentioned in Shulchan Aruch. Extending it until 1 or 3 pm is not against the Halacha.

The teachers have to be given advance notice with enough time to find a new job.
