Kaddish for Cremated Jew
Question:
I have a non-religious cousin who just passed away. He expressed his desire to be cremated (r”l), and his children did not want to go against his wish. I thought to have someone say kaddish for him. Is it muttar to say kaddish in this situation?
Answer:
One who is cremated by their own choice is not mourned, nor is Kaddish recited for them. Likewise, nothing should be donated with the person’s name.
However, if it was not by choice, Kaddish should be recited, and all Halachos of mourning should be observed. However, if there is another Chiyuv he should have priority to lead the Tefilos.
