Bochur Wearing a Tallis
Question:
In 770, where the minhag is for a chosson to wear a tallis when receiving an aliyah at his aufruf, should one make a bracha?
When one is davening in a shul where the minhag is for the baal tefillah to wear a tallis, should one make a bracha? Does it matter if it’s your tallis vs. the shul’s tallis?
Answer:
In both cases, when borrowing a tallis, one does not have to make a bracha but can if he wants. In this case, he should have in mind he is wearing it for the mitzvah.
Regarding if there’s a difference between a personal tallis and the shule’s tallis: though the custom is not to make a bracha in both cases. Nonetheless, it is preferable to avoid the issue and use a borrowed tallis.
