Saying Pesukim By Heart

 

Question:

It says in Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, 1:6: “You are not allowed to say pesukim by heart that are not common to know by heart.” Right before Oiseh Shalom in Shmone Esrei, there is a minhag to say pesukim that start and end with the same letters as your name. Many of these pesukim are not common. Do you have to write down the posuk and keep it in your siddur so you can read it? If not, what’s the reason that you are allowed to say it by heart?

 

Answer:

While it is preferable wherever possible to use a well-known posuk, the common custom is to recite these pesukim baal peh, even if not known by others.
