Tea Infuser with Coffee on Shabbos
Question:
Can I put regular ground coffee (not instant) in a tea infuser and put it in a kli shilishi (it resembles a tea bag)?
The kli shilishi is 180 degrees – kind of hot.
And would I have to take the infuser out with a spoon, as it says in Shmiras Shabbos… Also, he says that 180 degrees is too hot – should be 113 for tea in such a case (perhaps in general).
Answer:
The tea infuser would be the same as a tea bag, as stated there in Shmiras Shabbos Kehilchoso. As stated, remove it with a spoon so that it doesn’t drip while you are removing it. This can be done for coffee as well, as long as you don’t manually aid the process. See similarly here:
May one use a French press coffee maker on Shabbos? What about pour-over coffee through a filter?
In regards to the level of heat being used: with tea and coffee, you can put into a kli shlishi regardless of level of heat (if you normally rely on the heter of kli shlishi), or even pour from a kli sheini.
See here as well.
