I want to name a daughter after a great-grandmother, but don’t have proper records.

 

Answer:

Unless the great-grandmother is Israeli, or you live in Eretz Yisroel, the spelling is ראיא. Of course, you may choose to give a similar Israeli name רעיה.

P.S. To the best of my knowledge, this is a Russian or Persian name, which is a shortened version of the name ראיסא.
