Is it allowed to eat spelt Matzah at the Seder instead of wheat Matzah?

 

Spelt matzah may be used but it is a mitzvah min hamuvchar to use wheat. The Rama records that this is the custom. One shouldn’t veer away from this custom unless necessary. Some are concerned that we don’t have sufficient information about the leavening process of spelt and therefore it should be avoided unless absolutely required for health reasons.
