Early Shacharis when No Other Amud Available

 

Question:

In my community, there are only two shacharis minyanim: 6:30 and 7:30. We are at the point where 6:30 is running into a problem with netz, and in a few months it will run into a problem regarding the earliest time for Tallis and Teffilin. Normally, the 6:30 happens regardless.

There is another Chiyuv besides me, and cannot handle the 6:30, and I don’t want them to give up Davening for the Amud.

Am I allowed to Daven at 6:30?

 

Answer:

On days when taking the Amud at the 6:30 minyan would cause you to say Shmone Esre before Netz, it’s preferable to Daven at the 7:30 minyan – even if you won’t be able to take the Amud there (if no other choice exists). In this case, you should arrange for someone to daven for the Amud instead of you.

Those who even in this case would prefer to daven themselves have what to rely upon.

וכיון שלהתפלל בעצמו הוא רק ממנהגא, ומכבדו בלא״ה ע״י אחר, לכאורה העיקר להתפלל בזמנה. וג״ז לתועלת עליית הנשמה. ואדרבה, התועלת גדולה יותר כשמתפלל בזמן. ובפרט שמ״מ אומר קדיש בעצמו.
