Calculating the Correct Date for a Pidyon Haben

Question:

B’chor was born on Sunday, 25th of Tammuz, in the evening. How do we calculate the day of the Pidyon?

Answer:

Mazal Tov!

If he was born before Shkiah on Sunday 25 Tammuz (8:15 in Brooklyn NY) the Pidyon Haben should take place on the 31st day (counting the day of birth as the first day) – Tuesday 26 Av.

The Minhag is to do it later in the day, not early in the morning.

If he was born after Shkiah or if there is a safek the Pidyon Haben should take place on Wednesday 27 Av.
