Question:

Does the door of an accordion partition wall (like many public institutions have) need a Mezuzah?

What if that wall is periodically folded up and then reclosed, do you need to take off the mezuzah so that it should be תעשה ולא מן העשוי?

What if you open and close the accordion wall very frequently is the door considered a halachic door needing a mezuzah?

 

Answer:

If possible, put up a mezuzah while the wall is spread out to be yotze according to all opinions, for there is an opinion that holds that such a door is required in a mezuzah. However, one should make a Bracha on a different doorway and have this door in mind.

This opinion also maintains that it is not considered Taseh veloy min he’asui, because when the mezuzah was put up the first time there was a real doorway.

This will apply even if it will be opened and closed often, because according to this opinion the main thing is that the house is permanent even when the wall is dismantled.

ופשוט שלפי הנ”ל אין חילוק אם מפרקים הקיר שבו הדלת הרבה פעמים או רק מזמן לזמן דהא העיקר הוא שהדירה קבועה לעולם.
