Eating Before Shofar

Question:

My husband in past years didn’t drink before Shofar blowing. He goes on mivtzoyim before and this year he wanted to know as he feels his body isn’t as strong of he is allowed to drink before Shofar if need be? L’chatchila?

Answer:

While there are those who are stringent in this matter, according to halacha one may drink before tekios. This should ideally be done in the morning before davening. If your husband feels a need to drink he should certainly do so. He also does not need to make kiddush beforehand.
