Turning a Cup Upside Down to Find a Misplaced Object

 

Question:

Does the “custom” to turn a cup upside down to find a misplaced object, have a Jewish source/origin?

Is one allowed to practice this, or is it considered “following the ways of Emoyri”?

 

Answer:

This is a famous Russian superstition.

While there does seem to be some support for this idea in certain Jewish circles, it should not be practiced.

וההיתר רק בהוחזק וברור שמועיל.
